Academic Strength & Environment
Tianjin Medical University (TMU), founded in 1951, was the first medical university after the foundation of P. R. of China. It is one of the first universities to get the recognition of WHO and one of the 74 universities to acquire the approval by the Ministry of Education to accept overseas students.
TMU is also one of the 97 universities which are emphatically constructed by the National “211 Project”. TMU began to accept foreign students from 1960s. Nowadays, the University has over 1430 foreign students from 64 countries. The International School (IMS) of TMU is in charge of the recruitment, education and management of foreign students. Based on qualified teachers and favorable teaching facilities, the medical courses taught in English have been continued for nearly 20 years and welcome by the students coming from countries using English as official language. Some diplomats, presidents of medical council and reporters have visited TMU many times and speak highly of the environment and education of foreign students at our university.
Tianjin Medical University covers an area of 400,000 square meter; the total floor space of construction is 358,900 square meter. 7493 people are working here, including 5,946 specialists with 1,092 having associated-senior title. 8515 full-time students are studying here, including 347 doctorates, 1593 postgraduates, 5127 undergraduates, 494 training students and 1260 international students. Currently, it offers 3 mobile post-doctoral stations, 44 authorized doctoral programs, 61 authorized master programs with 158 doctoral supervisors and over 500 master supervisors.

Teaching Objective
Base on the tendency of education for foreign student in China and World, the university worked out the development strategy of “high quality of undergraduates, graduates with strong professional competence and rapid expansion of foreign students”.
International Medical School also drew up its work ideas for the development of international student’s education. The international students’ education will have “unique specialty, characteristic methods of teaching and certain influence and prestige in the world”. International Medical School adhered to the policy of “one orientation, three tasks and five works”.

The program for the foreign undergraduate medical students (in English Medium) is divided into three stages.

The first stage is to study Chinese culture and natural sciences, including the subjects of General Introduction to China, Chinese Language, Medical Chinese Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry etc., which lay a good foundation for the basic theory, basic knowledge and basic skills of the future medical program and familiarize foreign students with Chinese culture. Only the students who pass all the subjects in the first stage will be allowed to continue to study in the second stage.

The second stage is to study the basic medicine, including the subjects of Cell Biology, Introduction to Clinical Medical Science, Systematic Anatomy, Regional Anatomy, Histology, Embryology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Medical Genetics, Experimental Biochemical Techniques, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Human Parasitology, Pathology, Medical Psychology, Medical Statistics, Epidemiology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Diagnostics, Clinical Pharmacology, Operative Surgery, Forensic Medicine and Basic Nutrition and Diet Therapy.

The third stage is clinical medicine, including the three parts: teaching, practice and internship. Students are advised to begin the early clinical practice during the second stage in order to allow students to gain clinical knowledge and skills. In the process of the medical teaching, emphasis is placed on training in basic theory, basic knowledge and basic skills of clinical medicine. Besides tutorship, discussion, lectures, etc. foreign students also can practise in hospital with the Chinese students studying and helping each other. Theory class is combined with practice, and clinical skill training is combined with practice also. Examinations are divided into three parts. The clinical skills include Case History Collection, Physical Examination, Assistant Examination, Diagnosis, Differential Diagnosis, Treatment Plan to work out and carry out, Clinical thought, Emergency handling, Communication Skill and so on. Students are trained in primary clinical thought and how to handle common diseases and frequently-occurring diseases in their own field.
Time Distribution
Total weeks: 312 weeks, including 167 weeks for teaching, 1 week for early stage Clinical practice, 22 weeks for exams, 14 weeks for practice, 48 weeks for internship, 6 weeks for tutorship and lectures, 9 weeks for flexible teaching, 45 weeks for vacation.
Graduation and Degree
The students majoring in Clinical Medicine who complete all the required courses and elective courses and pass all the examinations are entitled to graduate and they are also awarded bachelor’s degree in medicine in accordance with the Academic Degree Regulations of the Peoples Republic of China and Tianjin Medical University.

Application Requirements and Materials
Entry Requirements:
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.
2. With senior high school diploma and with excellent academic performance, under the age of 25.
Application Materials:
1. Tianjin Medical University Foreign Student Application Form (in duplicate).
2. Highest Diploma (notarized photocopy).
3. Transcripts of senior high school studies.
4. Passport (in duplicate).
How to Apply
CUCAS provides two kinds of application methods for international candidates to study English medium MBBS programs at China's universities. They can choose the quick and convenient online application system or the traditional offline application route-Apply via Email.
Online Application Procedures
To complete the online application process, you need to follow the four main sections below:
1. Click 'Apply Now' button on this page and login, if didn't have the account, register first.
2. Fill out the online application form with real and correct informaiton, including personal information, education background, language proficiency, etc.

3. Upload the required application materials
Please upload photocopies of required application materials according to the university's admissions criteria.
All the materials should be MS-Word (.doc), Adobe PDF (.pdf) documents, image files (.gif, .jpg), or compression files (.rar, .zip). Each file cannot exceed 8 MB (megabytes)
4. Make payment
CUCAS offers five types of payment methods. Please carefully select your preferred payment method and to make the payment.
Students who choose Western Union or Bank transfer as their payment method need to upload the payment receipt after you wire the money at the post office or bank.
5. Submit application
Please submit your application once the application fee is confirmed by CUCAS. To submit your application, please access My CUCAS-> My Applications by logging in CUCAS, click 'Continue' at 'Application Status' column, and go to the 'Submit Application' section. You will see a big 'Submit' button. Click the button and your application will be sent directly to the university.
Once you've submitted your application, please wait 2-4 weeks for the university to process your application. Once the university has made a decision, CUCAS will notify you by email. You can also track your application status by logging into your CUCAS account.
Offline Application Procedures
The steps for 'Apply via Email' are as follows:
1. Choose a MBBS program;
2. Click “Apply via Email” to download the fillable application form and documents;
3. Open forms in MS Word and fill in required information electronically, please make sure the information is accurate and correct to receive your JW 202 form;
4. Send us the completed form and other required application materials;
5. Pay the Application Fee and CUCAS Processing Fee, keep the receipt;
6. Send us the copy of receipt, and the school will process your application once receiving your bank receipt;
7. Check your application process via email periodically, and track with your admission status;
8. Wait for your admission notice from CUCAS within 5 workdays, and the JW 202 form will send to you in 2-6 weeks;
