INTRODUCTION
The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) is a governmental agency responsible for the formulation and implementation of national science and technology R&D plans. One of its important missions is to strengthen international cooperation in science and technology with other countries, especially with developing countries. Since 1989, international technical training workshop/courses on various subjects have been conducted in China every year under the auspices of MOST as a part of its international scientific and technical cooperation programs.
The Training Workshop on Non-invasive Medicine—High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) Ablation Therapy, sponsored by Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MOST) and organized by National Engineering Research Centre of Ultrasound Medicine, Training Centre of HIFU Treatment of the Ministry of Health and Chongqing Medical University will take place in Chongqing from 10th to 30th July, 2012.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
1. Background
The past decades have witnessed the tremendous development of arising Non-invasive Medicine and HIFU Ablation Therapy for human diseases. The emerging Non-invasive Medicine has been put under spotlights on the stage of Modern Medicine.
Over 24 years, Non-invasive Medicine and HIFU Ablation Therapy have been successfully developed in China. For the time being, there are over 70 HIFU Tumour Therapy centers in China and 22 centers abroad having benefited thousands of cancer patients. Besides, there are over 1000 Focused Ultrasound Therapy centers offering excellent care for non-tumour diseases. Numerous clinicians who can manage HIFU Ablation Therapy have been qualified through training programmes.
Considering the tremendous contribution and accomplishment of the organizers, there are a lot of projects of state importance have been allocated to them in Chongqing.
In China, Non-invasive Medicine and HIFU Ablation Therapy has become a featured discipline with global influence. In the light of promoting education and popularization this innovative technology in developing countries, Chinese Government has put enormous effort to sponsor training programme.
2. Objectives
This workshop for the first time offers opportunities and platforms for post-graduates, researchers, scientists and clinicians who have engaged or are going to engage in the emerging Non-invasive Medicine from developing countries to learn the state of art know-how, skill and clinical application of Non-invasive Medicine and HIFU Ablation Therapy.

Chongqing, the youngest municipality and heavy industrial base in China, is located in South-west of China where Yangtze river and Jialing river go across the city with convenient transportation. It’s the hub of Western Region Development with beautiful mountainous and night view. It is a city famous for it karst caves, hot springs, cultural heritages such as Dazu Rock Carvings. Hot pot, one of the most well known Chinese foods, was originated from Chongqing and now widely spreaded to the whole world.
5. Weather
It is usually hot and humid in July with the temperature varies from 30℃ to 35℃.

QUALIFICATION
Only 20 members will be selected and recruited into this training workshop programme. All submitted application will be reviewed. Recruited members will be informed with an email notice by June 10th 2012.

CERTIFICATE
A qualification certificate issued by the Department of International Cooperation of MOST will be authorized respectively to selected members who have fulfilled the study mission successfully in the training workshop.
